Lavender Brown Mustard Honey Rub – Ingredients
Created using Kosher salt, honey powder, crushed brown mustard seed, turmeric, granulated onion, granulated garlic, black pepper, cumin, coriander, and ‘Folgate’ culinary lavender.
There are many types of mustards with many familiar with the yellow mustard used on hotdogs and hamburgers. Commonly referred to as ‘American’ mustard, this mustard gets its characteristically bright yellow color from turmeric. One of the milder mustards, it’s hugely popular in the U.S. at backyard cookouts and ball parks where hot dogs or burgers are served. Dijon mustard is made with white wine having the smooth consistency like yellow mustard but a more complex, sharp flavor.
The spicy Brown Mustard Mesa Lavender Farms uses in this rub has more heat and deeper flavor than yellow mustard hence the reason we select this for our Lavender Brown Mustard Honey Rub.
The honey Mesa Lavender Farms uses is spray dried honey, converted to a free flowing powdered product with a pure honey flavor. This form of honey enhances, intensifies, and compliments other flavorings and is also an exceptional sweetening agent. We selected honey powder as it is more convenient to use than liquid honey and results in a longer storage of dry mixes than liquid honey meaning this product has a very long keep period. However, we would encourage you to use it up freely and often to enjoy its superior taste. Brown mustard seeds are hot, aromatic, and bitter. We grind them to a fine consistency to ensure their taste is consistent throughout this dry rub. If you are looking for mustard rub with a bit more bite, then brown mustard is the best choice. Brown Mustard Seed is also known as Black Mustard Seed or Indian Mustard. This form of mustard is preferred in many Indian and African dishes due to their hotter, more pungent flavor.
